New System to Send Traffic Challans to Citizens via WhatsApp

The Safe Cities Authority has introduced key upgrades to the e-challan system, aimed at making the process more convenient and transparent for citizens. Under the new mechanism, traffic fines can now be viewed, verified, and paid directly through mobile phones.

Officials confirmed that the old system requiring citizens to send emails for corrections or inquiries has been scrapped. Instead, all e-challans will be sent via WhatsApp to the phone numbers registered with the Excise Department. Each challan will include details along with images captured by traffic cameras, while a secure payment link will allow citizens to settle fines instantly.

The Safe Cities website has also been enhanced with additional features. A new “Review” button has been added, enabling users to file correction requests online. If errors are found, the technical team will promptly cancel the incorrect challans.

Authorities highlighted that these reforms are designed to ensure efficiency, transparency, and public ease. Citizens may still pay fines through the Safe Cities official website, offering multiple payment options.

This modernized system marks a significant step towards digitizing traffic management and reducing public inconvenience in Lahore.
