The Environmental Protection Department has set up Pakistan’s first anti-smog tower in Lahore to combat rising air pollution. Developed in collaboration with a private company, this initiative represents a significant step toward improving air quality in the city.

Located in Mehmood Booti, the tower filters 50,000 cubic meters of air per hour and purifies 1.2 million cubic meters daily using electrostatic technology to eliminate harmful pollutants. It was locally manufactured by an Islamabad-based company.

Director General Imran Hamid Sheikh of the Environment Department highlighted industrial emissions and waste dumping sites as key pollution sources in the area. He stressed the importance of such measures to address deteriorating air quality.

The Punjab government is conducting a 15-day trial of the tower at no cost. Officials indicate that, if successful, more towers will be installed across Lahore to expand the project’s benefits.

This trial could lead to innovative solutions addressing smog in Pakistan’s urban areas.
