RAWALPINDI – Lahore is bracing for a significant showdown as the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) plans a protest at Minar-i-Pakistan on Saturday, despite the enforcement of Section 144 in the region.
The demonstration aims to address key issues such as rising inflation, demand for judicial independence, and calls for the release of party founder Imran Khan. PTI has labeled the event as a “do or die” situation, emphasizing their determination to proceed despite warnings from Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz.
In response, provincial authorities have imposed Section 144 across Lahore, Mianwali, Rawalpindi, Sargodha, and Attock, effectively banning political gatherings until October 8 in Lahore and October 7 in Mianwali. To ensure compliance, the government has deployed nine companies of paramilitary Rangers and has already arrested around 600 PTI supporters in recent police operations.

Lahore police are on high alert, with strict orders to patrol the city and detain anyone violating Section 144. Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has held extensive meetings with security officials, advocating for a strong crackdown on PTI supporters.
Reports indicate that PTI movements are being closely monitored, with the government planning to establish checkpoints to control access to the city. Additionally, containers may be deployed at key entry points to further enforce the restrictions.
PTI leader Shayan Bashir announced that party members are prepared and keeping their plans under wraps to surprise the government. PTI Lahore General Secretary Awais Younas expressed confidence that the people of Lahore would show their support, stating, “Lahore will demonstrate its allegiance to the captain.”
As tensions escalate, all eyes are on Lahore as the protest unfolds, with PTI facing increased confrontation in the federal capital.
