Punjab Health Department has taken strict action over a viral incident at Lady Willingdon Hospital in Lahore. Show-cause notices have been issued to several senior administrative officers following the emergence of an inappropriate video.
According to reports, the video showed two teams of doctors competing during C-section procedures in the same operating theatre. The incident raised serious concerns about patient safety and professional conduct at Lady Willingdon Hospital.
Officials confirmed that the action was taken on the instructions of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif. The health department stated that strict accountability is necessary in such sensitive matters involving patient care.
The department has also contacted the Pakistan Medical and Dental Council. It has recommended disciplinary action against five postgraduate doctors involved in recording the video. These include Dr. Tayyaba, Dr. Maham, Dr. Zainab, Dr. Ayesha, and Dr. Essa.
In addition, show-cause notices have been issued to multiple senior officials. These include the former Medical Superintendent, senior consultants, senior registrars, and the Head of Department. Authorities believe there was a serious lack of supervision and administrative control at Lady Willingdon.
Further disciplinary proceedings have also been initiated under relevant rules. Suspended Medical Superintendent Dr. Farah and other officials are under investigation. Other individuals named include Dr. Uzma, Dr. Munir, Dr. Rutaba, and Dr. Munaza.
The authorities have held senior management responsible for negligence and poor oversight. Officials stated that such incidents reflect administrative failure and require immediate corrective measures.
All individuals involved have been directed to submit written replies within seven days. They may also be required to appear before the inquiry panel for further clarification.
To ensure transparency, hearing officers have been appointed. Asif Bilal Lodhi will lead the proceedings. Mian Shakeel Ahmed has also been assigned a key role.
Show-cause notices have also been issued to additional staff members. These include a woman medical officer, charge nurses Iqra Hafeez and Fozia Rashid, and staff member Haseeb-ur-Rehman.
