The federal government has decided to restore the supply of natural gas to CNG stations across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa after successful discussions between federal and provincial representatives in Islamabad. Officials confirmed that around 35 million cubic feet per day (mmcfd) of gas will be supplied to CNG stations starting Thursday, providing relief to vehicle owners and transport operators in the province.

According to officials present at the meeting, CNG stations in the province will now receive gas from 6am to 6pm daily. The decision was made after growing concerns over the suspension of gas supply, which had affected transport activities and increased fuel-related problems for residents.

The development came one day after Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif formed a special ministerial committee to address the issue of suspended gas supply to CNG stations in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

Several important political and government figures attended the meeting. Participants included Governor Faisal Karim Kundi, Adviser to the Chief Minister on Finance Muzzammil Aslam, Opposition Leader in the KP Assembly Dr Ibadullah, senior federal officials, and representatives from Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited.

Officials stated that CNG stations in the province normally require around 40 to 45 mmcfd of gas every day to meet demand. However, the supply had been completely suspended last month, creating difficulties for station owners and consumers.

Speaking after the meeting, Muzzammil Aslam said Article 158 of Pakistan’s Constitution clearly states that gas should first be provided to the province where it is produced. He added that Khyber Pakhtunkhwa is the country’s largest gas-producing province and deserves priority in gas distribution.

Governor Kundi also appreciated the decision and said all political parties and stakeholders worked together to solve the issue for the benefit of the people of the province.
