The Government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has announced a one-month tax waiver for the transport sector. The decision aims to reduce passenger fares and provide relief to the public. This initiative reflects the government’s commitment to easing financial pressure on commuters across the province.
Under the new policy, the KP government has exempted transporters from paying schedule tax and stand tax for one month. The relief will be implemented in all districts. Authorities have directed transport operators to transfer the full benefit of this exemption to passengers through reduced fares.
The decision was finalized during a video-link meeting chaired by Riaz Khan Mehsud. He also serves as Chairman of the Regional Transport Authority. Officials discussed strategies to ensure uniform implementation of the directive across the province.
To guarantee compliance, strict monitoring measures have been introduced. The KP administration has ordered the deployment of three assistant commissioners in each district. These officers will inspect transport terminals and major highways to prevent overcharging.
Deputy commissioners have also been instructed to personally supervise field operations. Their role will be to ensure that reduced fares are properly implemented. This step aims to protect passengers from exploitation and ensure transparency in fare collection.
Transporters have been directed to display government-approved fare lists on the front of their vehicles. This requirement will allow passengers to verify official rates easily. It will also help authorities maintain accountability within the transport system.
The meeting followed recent visits by Commissioner Mehsud to passenger stands, GT Road, and the motorway in Peshawar. These inspections highlighted the need for stronger enforcement and consistent fare reductions. The initiative is designed to provide maximum relief to the public.
The KP government expects the temporary tax waiver to improve affordability for daily commuters. It also aims to ensure fair practices within the transport sector. Authorities believe the measure will promote transparency and strengthen public trust.
