The KP Food Authority carried out major raids in Peshawar on Friday, seizing hundreds of kilograms of illegal meat and over 255 kilograms of adulterated spices. Officials said these operations are part of ongoing efforts to ensure food safety in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
During a raid at a butcher shop in Chargano Chowk, authorities recovered meat from underage animals, which was deemed unsafe for human consumption. The shop owner was arrested, and a case has been registered against him under the Food Safety Act.
In a separate operation, inspectors raided a spice manufacturing unit and confiscated 255 kilograms of adulterated spices. Officials found that the factory used bran, husk, low-quality dyes, and other harmful materials to produce the spices. Legal action has been initiated against the factory owner for violating food safety regulations.
Director General of the KP Food Authority, Wasif Saeed, praised the inspection teams for their work. He warned that strict action would continue against any businesses involved in food adulteration. Saeed emphasized that the authority will not tolerate the sale of unsafe or harmful food in the province.
The KP Food Authority also urged the public to report any suspicious food-related activities. Citizens’ cooperation, the authority said, is crucial to ensure food safety and prevent health risks from contaminated products.
These raids highlight the ongoing challenges faced by authorities in maintaining food quality and protecting public health. Regular inspections of butcher shops, spice factories, and other food businesses remain a top priority for the KP Food Authority.
