Kolkata, September 1, 2024: Sanjay Roy, accused in a high-profile rape and murder case and currently held at Presidency Correctional Home, has stirred controversy by demanding special food in prison. According to sources, Roy expressed his displeasure with the standard “roti-sabzi” meal served to inmates, insisting that he should be allowed to have egg chowmein instead.

The prison authorities, however, rejected his demand, citing strict jail regulations that ensure all inmates are provided with the same meals without any special privileges. “The rules are clear—every prisoner receives the same food prepared for the entire inmate population. We cannot make exceptions,” said a senior prison official.

This incident has sparked discussions on the treatment of prisoners and whether individuals accused of heinous crimes should be allowed to make such demands. Roy, who is facing serious charges, will continue to receive the standard prison meals as per the existing regulations.
