Kite Strings Injure two in Lahore Before Basant

LAHORE – Excitement over the approaching Basant celebrations in Punjab’s capital turned into fear after two people, including a toddler, suffered serious neck injuries caused by sharp kite strings, highlighting the dangers linked to the festive activity.

In one alarming incident, a two-year-old girl narrowly escaped death when a razor-sharp kite string cut her neck, leaving her critically injured. The child, identified as Zainab Fatima from Kasur, was immediately shifted to Jinnah Hospital. Doctors at the hospital’s S-3 Unit carried out emergency surgery on her throat to save her life. Following the operation, she was transferred to the plastic surgery department for further treatment.

Medical officials said the injuries were severe, but timely medical intervention proved crucial. Zainab’s condition has since stabilised and she is showing gradual signs of recovery. Prof Dr Tayyaba Wasim, Principal of Allama Iqbal Medical College, confirmed that a dedicated medical board is closely monitoring the child’s health and ensuring she receives all necessary care.

In a separate incident in Lahore’s Green Town area, a young man named Awais also suffered a serious neck injury after being struck by a sharp kite string. He was rushed to hospital, where doctors stitched the deep wound and conducted precautionary X-rays of his cervical spine to rule out any additional complications. Hospital sources later confirmed that his condition is stable. Check out the Shortlisted Locations Across Lahore for Basant 2026
