Karachi Weather: City Feels Sudden Cold as Temperatures Drop

Karachi, the capital of Sindh, is currently experiencing a sudden drop in temperatures, sending chills across the city. According to the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), the minimum temperature has fallen to 8.5°C, which is 3.5°C below the seasonal average, marking a significant cold spell in the metropolis.

The coldest areas in Karachi were Jinnah Terminal and its surroundings, where temperatures dropped to a frigid 6.2°C. Other parts of the city also faced sharp temperature dips, with Bin Qasim recording 8.6°C, Gulistan-e-Johar at 8.7°C, and Shahrah-e-Faisal and Mauripur seeing temperatures settle at 9.5°C. The PMD has urged residents to prepare for the ongoing cold weather, advising people, particularly those in the city’s coldest neighborhoods, to dress warmly and take necessary precautions.

This chill in Karachi is part of a wider weather pattern affecting much of Pakistan, caused by a strong continental air mass bringing cold and dry conditions across the country. Regions such as upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Kashmir, Gilgit-Baltistan, and northern Balochistan are experiencing freezing temperatures accompanied by partly cloudy skies, with icy winds affecting most areas.

The cold wave has been accompanied by heavy snowfall and rainfall in northern regions. Malam Jabba reported a staggering 26 inches of snow, Murree 5.5 inches, and Kalam 3.5 inches. Rainfall has also been notable, with Muzaffarabad Airport receiving 49mm and Attock 22mm.

Across Pakistan, winter conditions are severe, with temperatures plummeting in northern and western areas. Leh and Kalat recorded -11°C, Astore -9°C, Quetta -7°C, and Malam Jabba -6°C. Several northern towns, including Murree, Dir, and Rawalakot, have also reported sub-zero temperatures. The ongoing cold wave is expected to continue, and authorities have advised people to remain cautious and follow safety measures to cope with the harsh winter conditions.

Karachi Weather remains cold as residents brace for continued low temperatures and icy winds.
