A terrorist affiliated with Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) was killed in a shootout with the Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) in Karachi on Tuesday night. The operation took place in the Mochko police station’s jurisdiction after the CTD received a tip-off about terrorist activity near Hanfia Mosque.

When the CTD team raided the location, the suspect, identified as Umar Farooq (also known as Faridullah or Dr. Umar), fired upon the police to evade arrest. During the exchange of fire, Farooq was wounded and later succumbed to his injuries while being transported to the hospital. A 9mm pistol was recovered from him.
Farooq was a fugitive and had been implicated in the Karachi Police Office (KPO) attack and the Abbas Town bomb blast. He was involved in multiple terrorism cases from 2013 to 2014 and had been imprisoned for ten cases before fleeing to Afghanistan. The CTD’s operation successfully neutralized a key figure in the terrorist network he was attempting to organize in Karachi.
