KARACHI – Commissioner Syed Hassan Naqvi has announced a major tree-planting campaign set to launch within the next two weeks, aiming to plant 140,000 saplings across Karachi. The initiative will see collaboration from the forest department, municipal authorities, and private institutions, with deputy commissioners tasked to oversee the planting of 10,000 saplings in their districts.
The campaign is designed to enhance the city’s green spaces, including highways, parks, and green belts, supporting broader government efforts to address environmental challenges. Commissioner Naqvi has called on all institutions to join forces in this effort to improve Karachi’s environment.

The planning meeting for the campaign included various stakeholders such as deputy commissioners, the Forest Department, Uzma Municipality, KDA, MDA, LDA, Cantonment Boards, DI Site Limited, KPT, Civil Aviation Authority, Mazar Quaid Management Board, Port Qasim Authority, town administrations, Abad, Site Limited Chambers of Commerce and Industries, as well as environmental NGOs and private sector representatives. It was agreed that only environmentally friendly plants would be used for the campaign, specifically excluding Cornocarpus. Deputy commissioners have begun identifying appropriate sites for planting.
