A massive fire erupted early Tuesday morning at a factory located in Karachi’s Export Processing Zone (EPZ), sending thick smoke across the industrial area. Authorities confirmed that the blaze has now been brought under control, thanks to swift action by the Karachi Fire Department.
The fire started around 3:00 AM, reportedly in a storage section of the factory, and quickly spread to adjacent units. Local workers were evacuated immediately, preventing any casualties. Firefighters used multiple water tankers and foam extinguishers to contain the flames. By noon, the situation was under control, although investigations are ongoing to determine the exact cause.
Officials stressed the importance of fire safety protocols in industrial zones, noting that past incidents in Karachi have caused significant damage. Recently, another major accident on the Quetta Highway highlighted industrial safety risks when a fire broke out on a coal truck, injuring 16 people. The incident serves as a stark reminder for businesses to maintain strict safety measures to prevent similar tragedies.
The EPZ authorities have assured that production at unaffected units will resume soon and promised full cooperation with investigative teams. Local residents in surrounding areas were advised to avoid the zone temporarily due to smoke and emergency operations.
This incident marks the second major fire in Karachi’s industrial zones in recent weeks, prompting calls for updated safety regulations. Fire officials are urging factories to review electrical systems, chemical storage protocols, and emergency exits to prevent future occurrences.
The Karachi Fire Department’s prompt response ensured that the fire did not escalate further, safeguarding both lives and property. Authorities continue to monitor the site to prevent flare-ups, reinforcing the importance of industrial safety in Pakistan’s economic hubs.
