Following instructions from Karachi Mayor Murtaza Wahab, banners displaying the fixed rate of PKR 14,300 for grave fees have been installed at all registered cemeteries in Karachi.
Sarwar Alam, Director of Cemeteries, conducted visits to cemeteries under the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) jurisdiction, where he issued clear instructions for workers to comply with KMC’s bylaws and the prescribed rates. He also emphasized that only registered personnel would be allowed to work in the cemeteries.

The Mayor’s office has made it clear that these directives will be enforced strictly. Any worker or individual charging more than the set rates will face severe action.
This initiative comes as a response to complaints about certain mafia groups extorting additional money from citizens at the city’s cemeteries. The installation of banners displaying the official rates is part of the mayor’s efforts to curb this exploitation and ensure transparency in cemetery operations under KMC’s management.
