Justice Yahya Afridi has been officially appointed as the Chief Justice of Pakistan, following the President’s approval. The Ministry of Law and Justice issued a formal notification on Monday, marking this significant transition in the judiciary.
Justice Afridi, who is recognized for his extensive judicial experience and integrity, will succeed the outgoing Chief Justice Qazi Faez Isa. His appointment makes him the 30th Chief Justice of Pakistan.

President Asif Ali Zardari appointed Justice Afridi for a three-year term, with the oath of office scheduled for October 26. The decision comes after a 12-member parliamentary committee nominated him with a two-thirds majority, finalizing the nomination with a vote of 8-1. Notably, JUI Senator Kamran Murtaza supported Justice Mansoor Ali Shah during the voting, while PTI members were absent from the meeting.
The nomination was forwarded to the President by the Prime Minister, in accordance with Articles 175A (3), 177, and 179 of the Constitution.
