Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari expressed concerns over the judiciary’s “unconstitutional assumption of powers” during a National Assembly session. He criticized the judiciary’s role in undermining the legal system, saying, “The judiciary has become a mockery of our legal system globally.”
In his remarks, Bhutto-Zardari singled out former Chief Justice Iftikhar Chaudhry, describing him as a “black snake” who posed a serious threat to the foundations of the Constitution and democracy. He emphasized the need for constitutional reforms, referencing Chaudhry’s past threats to overturn the 18th Amendment, which could significantly weaken democratic progress in the country.

“We are on the verge of establishing a constitutional bench that will prioritize the people’s interests,” he stated, advocating for reforms that align with the democratic aspirations of Pakistan. He also called on all political parties, including the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), to rally behind the amendment proposed by JUI-F leader Maulana Fazlur Rehman.
“Let’s come together for the sake of the Constitution and democracy,” Bhutto-Zardari urged, appealing for unity across party lines to safeguard the country’s democratic framework.
