Panic erupted in Bajaur on Saturday morning after a bomb exploded outside the residence of a Jamaat-e-Islami leader, Maulana Waheed Gul. Fortunately, no one was injured in the incident.
Maulana Waheed Gul is the naib emir of Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) in Bajaur and a former candidate for the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly. Police confirmed the blast occurred in front of his house, causing fear in the surrounding neighborhood.
House and Vehicle Damaged
Officials said the explosion partially damaged the main gate and windows of the Jamaat-e-Islami leader’s house. A parked vehicle was also affected. Maulana Waheed confirmed that everyone at home was safe.
A large contingent of police quickly reached the site. Authorities cordoned off the area to secure the scene and prevent further incidents. Residents reported panic as initial investigations began.
IED Suspected in Attack
District Police Officer Waqas Rafiq said preliminary reports suggest an improvised explosive device (IED) was used. Police have launched a detailed investigation to identify the perpetrators and their motive.
Despite the blast, no casualties were reported. Officials and the Jamaat-e-Islami leader described the outcome as fortunate given the intensity of the explosion.
Security Concerns Rise
The attack comes a week after a senior JUI-F leader, Maulana Sultan Muhammad Wazir, died from injuries in a bomb blast near a seminary in Wana. A remote-controlled IED had targeted him.
Authorities said they are collecting evidence from the Bajaur blast site. Security has been heightened in the area. Officials emphasized their commitment to protecting political and religious leaders.
