Italy Becomes First European Country to Reserve Jobs for Pakistan

Pakistan has achieved a major breakthrough in overseas employment as Italy allocates a dedicated job quota for Pakistani workers. The agreement opens new, legal opportunities for Pakistanis seeking work in Europe.

The Ministry of Overseas Pakistanis announced that Italy has allotted a total of 10,500 jobs for Pakistan over the next three years. Under this plan, 3,500 Pakistani workers will travel to Italy annually, providing continuity and stability in overseas employment.

The annual quota is divided into 1,500 seasonal jobs and 2,000 non-seasonal positions each year. This arrangement ensures that both skilled and semi-skilled workers benefit across multiple sectors.

Sectors Open for Employment
Italy has designated jobs for Pakistanis in shipbreaking, hospitality, healthcare, and agriculture. Workers will be employed as welders, technicians, chefs, waiters, housekeeping staff, nurses, medical technicians, and agricultural workers. This reflects a strong demand for Pakistan’s workforce.

Officials highlighted that Italy is the first European country to formally allocate a dedicated employment quota for Pakistan. This move is expected to set a precedent and encourage other European countries to follow suit.

The second meeting of the Pakistan-Italy Joint Working Group is scheduled in Islamabad in February 2026. The meeting will review progress, explore additional collaboration, and expand employment avenues for Pakistani workers in Italy and beyond.

Government Reaction
Federal Minister Chaudhry Salik Hussain called the Italy job quota a significant milestone for Pakistan’s overseas workforce. He emphasized the government’s commitment to providing decent, legal employment opportunities worldwide.

The minister highlighted that overseas Pakistanis act as ambassadors of the country and contribute significantly to the economy through remittances. He expressed optimism that more European nations would open similar opportunities for Pakistani workers following Italy’s example.
