At least 28 people were killed on Tuesday in Israeli airstrikes near the European Hospital in Khan Yunis, according to Gaza’s civil defense agency. The Israeli military claimed it had targeted a Hamas command and control center hidden in an underground facility beneath the hospital.
Civil defense spokesperson Mahmud Bassal said emergency crews recovered 28 bodies from the area. Earlier figures cited by civil defense media officer Ahmad Radwan had reported seven dead and 30 injured from bombings around the hospital’s vicinity.

The Israeli military stated the strike was aimed at Hamas operatives using medical infrastructure for military purposes, asserting that hospitals in Gaza continue to serve as shields for Hamas’s operations.
Eyewitnesses described scenes of terror inside the European Hospital, with patients, staff, and wounded individuals scrambling for safety amid the strikes. “It was an utterly catastrophic scene,” said local photojournalist Amro Tabash.
In a separate strike earlier the same day, the Israeli army also targeted Nasser Hospital in Khan Yunis, killing two and injuring several others. Among the dead was journalist Hassan Aslih, whom Israeli officials accused of involvement in Hamas’s October 7 attacks.
