Among the victims, 15 Palestinians were killed near aid distribution points—marking the latest in a series of deadly attacks on civilians seeking food and supplies. Witnesses reported that Israeli forces opened fire on crowds gathered near distribution sites run by the Gaza Humanitarian Foundation (GHF), a U.S.- and Israeli-backed initiative that began operations in late May.
Since its launch, over 274 Palestinians have been killed and hundreds injured while attempting to access aid. The GHF, which employs private American military contractors under Israeli oversight, has faced severe criticism from the UN and humanitarian groups.
Jens Laerke, spokesperson for the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA), condemned the GHF’s operations as a “failure,” stating that aid should be delivered “safely and securely.” The UN agency for Palestinian refugees (UNRWA) also denounced the model, calling it “a recipe for chaos” that “weaponizes aid” and fuels desperation.
Meanwhile, in southern Gaza, an Israeli drone strike near the Islamic University in Khan Younis killed three Palestinians, while tank shelling targeted residential areas in Hamad City and displaced families in Asdaa.
