Water Crisis Forces Islamabad Residents To Rely On Expensive Tankers

Islamabad is facing a serious water crisis in several sectors, especially in I-14 and I-16. Residents in these areas have been without a government water supply for over 25 years. The situation has left many dependent on costly private water tankers.

These sectors do not have government tube wells or proper water supply lines. The underground water table is extremely low, which makes it difficult to provide water through traditional means. As a result, residents must buy water from private tankers. The price for a tractor trolley of water ranges from Rs1,600 to Rs1,800.

One resident said, “They always promise water from Tarbela or Khanpur, but nothing happens.” Another noted that the limited tanker supply has stopped in some homes.

Officials from the Capital Development Authority (CDA) say that the water network is available in these sectors. However, the main water source is planned to come from Shah Allah Ditta. In sector G-13, a land dispute with the Housing Authority is delaying the water supply. CDA’s Water Management Director General Sardar Khan Zamri provided these updates.

Many Islamabad residents blame poor planning and weak infrastructure for the crisis in newer sectors. They urge the CDA to prioritize basic water services over other development projects. They warn that if the issue is not addressed soon, it could become a humanitarian emergency.

The water shortage highlights the urgent need for Islamabad’s authorities to improve infrastructure. Until then, residents in I-14 and I-16 will continue to rely on expensive tankers for their daily water needs.
