Significant strides have been taken in the introduction of electric buses for public transportation in the federal capital.
Informed sources have reported that the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) has initiated the issuance of a letter of credit (LC) for the acquisition of electric buses. Following the SBP’s LC issuance, the requisite funds have been disbursed for the procurement of these buses. The consignment of electric buses is expected to begin arriving in Pakistan over the next two months.
According to these sources, in late November of this year, a team from the Capital Development Authority (CDA) will travel to China to inspect the buses. Subsequent to the CDA team’s inspection, the initial batch of 30 buses will be dispatched to Pakistan.

CDA officials have reported that the buses are in the final stages of preparation, and once the CDA inspection is completed, the buses will be dispatched to Pakistan.
Upon the arrival of the first batch of electric buses from NRTC, drivers will undergo a two-week training program. These buses are anticipated to hit the streets of Islamabad in December of this year. Initially, they will serve two routes, connecting IJP and Taramri with the Central Metro Bus System.
As per CDA officials, feeder buses will operate on 13 routes throughout Islamabad, promising a world-class travel experience for approximately 100,000 passengers.
