Two officers of the Islamabad Police were attacked and robbed at gunpoint while on duty early Friday morning in Sector E-11. The officers were responding to a disturbance call when they were overpowered by a group of armed men.
According to Islamabad Police, the incident took place around 4:15 a.m. Assistant Sub-Inspector Khushhal Ahmed and Constable Muqaddar were sent to apartment 402 after a report was received through the Safe City system.
Upon reaching the location, the officers encountered 15 to 20 armed suspects. The group was allegedly led by Asim Jahangir, a known criminal with multiple cases registered against him. The suspects reportedly beat the officers with the butts of their weapons and held them hostage inside the apartment.
The attackers took official and personal items from the officers. These included a wireless communication device, mobile phones, and wallets containing cash. After robbing the officers, the suspects fired several warning shots while fleeing the scene.
Gunfire caused panic among residents of the building, many of whom hid in their apartments. The injured officers managed to call for help once the suspects left. They were later taken to PIMS Hospital for treatment.
Islamabad Police registered a case under the Pakistan Penal Code and the Anti-Terrorism Act. A follow-up operation led to the arrest of six suspects. However, the main accused, Asim Jahangir, remains at large.
This incident has raised serious concerns about the safety of law enforcement officers, even during routine calls. Islamabad Police have launched a full investigation and are continuing efforts to arrest all those involved.
Authorities have promised swift action and have increased patrols in the area to prevent further incidents. The case remains under active investigation.
