Islamabad Closes Hiking Trails Over Heavy Rain Forecast

Following the Pakistan Meteorological Department’s warning of heavy to torrential rains over the next three days, Islamabad authorities have ordered the temporary closure of several popular hiking trails in the Margalla Hills.

The decision, taken on the recommendation of the Capital Development Authority’s (CDA) Director General, is aimed at safeguarding the public from potential dangers linked to the adverse weather conditions.

The shutdown affects Trail 2, Trail 3, Trail 4, Trail 5, and the path behind Saidpur Village. These routes will remain off-limits until August 19, 2025. Officials said the step was necessary to minimize risks for hikers and visitors during the ongoing spell of heavy monsoon rains in the Federal Capital.

This move is part of a wider set of safety precautions being enforced nationwide as intense monsoon activity disrupts several regions. In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, districts including Dir, Chitral, Swat, Kohistan, and Mansehra are on alert for flash floods from August 17 to 19.

Similar warnings have been issued for Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Murree, and Galliyat, where torrential downpours could trigger flash flooding in streams and nullahs. Authorities have advised the public to avoid travel to vulnerable areas and remain alert to weather updates.
