The University of Southern Denmark (SDU) is offering Danish Government Scholarships for international students planning to study in Denmark in September 2027.
The scholarships are available to eligible Pakistani students and applicants from other countries outside the European Union (EU) and European Economic Area (EEA).
Selected students can receive tuition-fee waivers for eligible Bachelor’s and Master’s degree programmes. The scholarship covers the standard duration of the selected degree, subject to the university’s conditions.
However, students will need to arrange their own funding for living expenses. The scholarship does not include a monthly allowance for accommodation, food, transportation, or other personal costs.
Applicants do not need to submit a separate scholarship application. SDU will automatically consider eligible candidates who apply for admission to the approved programmes.
The application deadline is February 1, 2027, for Master’s programmes. Bachelor’s applicants must apply by March 15, 2027.
Danish Government Scholarships 2027: Eligible Programmes
The scholarship scheme covers selected engineering and technology programmes offered at SDU’s Sønderborg and Vejle campuses.
Master’s scholarships are available for five programmes at the Sønderborg campus:
- MSc in Engineering Physics
- MSc in Electrical Engineering
- MSc in Mechanical Engineering
- MSc in Mechatronics
- MSc in Software Engineering
Bachelor’s scholarship opportunities are available for four programmes at the Vejle campus:
- BSc in Artificial Intelligence
- BSc in Computer Science
- BSc in Interactive Technology Engineering
- BSc in Software Engineering
Students must apply to one of these eligible programmes to qualify for scholarship consideration. Applicants choosing other programmes will not be eligible under this scheme.
Scholarship Benefits and Tuition Fee Coverage
The Danish Government Scholarships primarily provide tuition-fee waivers for the standard duration of eligible degree programmes.
Successful Master’s students can receive tuition coverage for up to two years. Eligible Bachelor’s students may receive support for up to three years.
The tuition waiver generally covers a normal academic workload of 30 European Credit Transfer and Accumulation System (ECTS) credits per semester. Additional courses beyond this limit may involve extra fees.
Recipients must maintain satisfactory academic progress to continue receiving scholarship support. SDU normally expects students to complete 30 ECTS credits each semester.
Students who fail to meet the university’s academic requirements may lose their scholarship for the following semester. Bachelor’s scholarship guidance may allow full or partial tuition waivers, depending on the offer.
Eligibility Criteria for International Students
Pakistani students can apply if they meet the admission requirements for an eligible programme. Applicants must come from outside the EU and EEA and satisfy the university’s academic criteria.
Master’s applicants must hold a relevant Bachelor’s degree or provide acceptable documentation of their pending qualification. Bachelor’s applicants must have an accepted secondary education qualification.
Candidates must also meet the subject-specific requirements of their chosen programmes. The university will assess academic records and the relevance of previous qualifications.
Applicants who qualify for Denmark’s State Educational Grant and Loan Scheme, known as SU, cannot receive these scholarships.
English Language Requirements
Applicants to English-taught Master’s programmes must demonstrate adequate English proficiency. The university generally requires an IELTS Academic score of 6.5, with no individual band below 6.5.
SDU also accepts TOEFL iBT and Cambridge English qualifications. The published TOEFL iBT minimum is 83, alongside applicable component requirements.
Applicants using Cambridge C1 Advanced qualifications must achieve at least 180. Candidates should confirm the latest language requirements for their chosen programme before applying.
How Scholarship Candidates Are Selected
SDU uses a competitive selection process to identify successful applicants. For Master’s scholarships, academic performance during the previous Bachelor’s degree is an important consideration.
Shortlisted Master’s candidates may also be invited to online interviews. These interviews are normally scheduled between February 19 and 27 and may include technical questions.
Bachelor’s scholarship selection considers performance in the university’s online admission test, called uniTEST. Candidates with the highest relevant scores may be invited for interviews, usually held in early June.
How to Apply for Danish Government Scholarships 2027
Interested students must first apply for admission to an eligible programme at the University of Southern Denmark. A separate scholarship application is not required.
Master’s applicants should use SDU’s DANS online application system. They must review programme requirements and prepare their academic documents before submitting an application.
Required documents may include degree certificates, academic transcripts, course details, grades, and relevant academic credits. Applicants may also need verified course descriptions and a self-assessment form.
Proof of English proficiency is generally required unless an accepted exemption applies. Non-EU and non-EEA applicants may also need to pay a €200 application deposit, unless exempt.
Applicants should upload all required documents through the university’s online system. Those applying to multiple Master’s programmes must place the scholarship-eligible programme as their highest priority for funding consideration.
