Instead, they are instructed to use the phrase “sexual deviance.” The directive was disclosed by an official document and an Iraqi government spokesperson.

The Iraqi Communications and Media Commission (CMC) specified that even the term “gender” is prohibited. Although the decision is not yet fully ratified, a government source indicated that violations might incur fines.
Notably, several major Iraqi political factions have recently expressed opposition to the LGBT movement. This action mirrors a global pattern, with more than 60 countries having criminalized homosexuality.
