Indian Drone Shot Down Near Lahore Amid Rising Cross-Border Tensions

A series of loud explosions rattled Lahore’s Walton Road on Thursday morning, sparking panic among residents and raising fresh alarms amid the already tense regional situation. According to police officials, multiple blasts were heard in the Gopal Nagar and Naseerabad areas near Walton Airport, with residents fleeing their homes after witnessing clouds of smoke rising in the sky.

Police sources later confirmed that an Indian drone, measuring approximately 5 to 6 feet, had been shot down near Walton Airport. The drone, reportedly carrying explosives, was intercepted and neutralized by jamming its system as it neared sensitive buildings in the area. Officials stated that the drone had been flown from across the border with the intent of spying on high-security locations.

Rescue and police teams quickly reached Walton Road to secure the area and assess any potential threats. Fortunately, no casualties or damage have been reported so far. The incident has further escalated concerns about cross-border incursions at a time of heightened military tensions between Pakistan and India.

Earlier in the day, several key air routes in Lahore and Sialkot were temporarily closed for commercial flights due to the prevailing security situation. A fresh Notice to Airmen (Notam) confirmed that the closures, which impacted multiple Pakistan International Airlines flights, would remain in effect until noon on Thursday, with several flights diverted to Karachi as a precaution.
