These requests were frequently backed by legal threats if Twitter did not cooperate.
India is one of the countries that has received numerous requests regarding farmer demonstrations and certain journalists who have been critical of the administration.
The Indian government ordered Twitter to suspend several accounts and limit the appearance of specific hashtags within the nation in early 2021. Threats of legal action against the social networking firm based in the United States spurred this action.
It’s worth noting that several of the accounts identified for suspension had expressed support for the farmers’ protests against the recently proposed legislation.

During an interview with Breaking Points, Jack Dorsey discussed the severe pressure that Twitter has been under to from the Indian government, which has threatened to shut down the platform in India, perform raids on employees’ residences, and close down Twitter headquarters if their demands are not met.
Given India’s democratic standing, these moves were shocking.
Twitter had previously shown considerable opposition to government mandates for the removal of messages or the suspension of accounts. The business even went to court, challenging the Indian government to contest different block orders placed on tweets and accounts.
The Indian government, on the other hand, maintained that the country’s laws applied equally to Twitter.
It acted as if Indian laws did not apply to it. As a sovereign nation, India has the right to guarantee that all enterprises operating in India follow its laws.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]
