Karachi Independence Day celebrations turned deadly as aerial firing left three dead and dozens injured. Police arrested more than 90 people for aerial firing that resulted in multiple deaths and dozens of injuries. Authorities recovered 68 illegal weapons from those detained and registered over 100 cases related to the incidents.

Officials confirmed that additional charges of murder and attempted murder are being filed against suspects. The violence was reported across the city, with 30 injuries in the East Zone, 43 in the West Zone, and 12 in the South Zone.

Three people lost their lives. An eight-year-old girl in Azizabad was killed after being struck in the head by a stray bullet. In Korangi and Lyari, two elderly men died after being shot in the head and neck. Among the injured were 51 men, 24 women, six boys, and one girl.

The events have once again drawn attention to urgent safety concerns over Karachi’s aerial firing incidents. Many are calling for stricter enforcement against illegal firearms and greater public awareness to stop the dangerous practice.

Sindh Inspector General Ghulam Nabi Memon expressed concern over the incidents. He reminded citizens that Independence Day is meant for unity and celebration, not harm. “Celebrating does not mean taking someone’s life,” he said, urging the public to avoid aerial firing.

Authorities have pledged to take firm action against those responsible. They hope future celebrations will be safe, peaceful, and a true reflection of the spirit of independence.

In related developments, Finance Minister Ishaq Dar has stressed the need for consistent and stable economic policies to drive long-term growth, as reported in Dar stresses economic policy continuity to strengthen Pakistan.
