Imran Khan views the role of Oxford University chancellor as an honor for Pakistan

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder and former prime minister Imran Khan expressed on Monday that if he were to be elected as Chancellor of Oxford University, it would be a great honor for Pakistan. Speaking from Adiala Jail, where he is currently imprisoned on multiple charges, Khan stated that even if he does not secure the chancellorship, it would not undermine his achievements.

“No one in the history of cricket in Pakistan has reached the level I have,” Khan said, highlighting his extensive contributions, including the construction of two hospitals and two universities, with a third university still under development.

Khan also used the opportunity to criticize the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leadership, particularly former prime minister Nawaz Sharif. He accused Sharif and his party members of being inconsistent in their stance towards the military, often promoting the idea of “respecting the vote” while selectively overlooking other criticisms of the military establishment.

“Nawaz Sharif has spent two and a half years criticizing the army and martial law under the guise of ‘respecting the vote.’ Khawaja Asif has also spoken ill of the army, but no one questioned him,” Khan remarked. He also claimed that other political figures, such as Ahsan Iqbal, have criticized the military by referencing the Hamudur Rehman Commission report and suggesting that Pakistan is on the brink of becoming like Myanmar.

Khan further argued that discussions about negotiations are frequently derailed by bringing up the events of May 9, asserting that this serves as an “insurance policy” for the current government, implying that once this narrative loses its impact, both the government’s authority and its political standing will crumble.

He called for the formation of a judicial commission to investigate the events of May 9, alleging that those responsible for his abduction and the disappearance of CCTV footage were involved in orchestrating a conspiracy on that day.

Additionally, Khan reiterated accusations of electoral fraud benefiting Nawaz Sharif, claiming that 74,000 votes were cast to ensure Sharif’s victory over PTI candidate Dr. Yasmin Rashid.
