New Hearing Details On Imran Khan’s May 9 Case Emerge

Pakistan’s former prime minister and PTI chief Imran Khan is facing fresh legal challenges as the Anti‑Terrorism Court (ATC) continues hearings in the high-profile May 9 GHQ attack case. The proceedings on Wednesday highlighted technical disruptions, courtroom tensions, and procedural disputes that could have implications for both Khan and his party ahead of upcoming elections.

During the latest session, Khan appeared via WhatsApp video link from Adiala Jail, but connectivity issues and unclear visuals prevented effective communication. Defence lawyers Salman Akram Raja and Faisal Malik protested the technical problems, stating it was impossible to consult with their client properly, and subsequently boycotted the hearing. Video footage shows Khan listening attentively as the court attempted to proceed amid heightened security and media presence.

The ATC already notified about this hearing, underscoring the official scheduling. Despite the boycott, the court recorded statements from eight prosecution witnesses, including officials from the Federal Investigation Agency and Pakistan Information Department, and adjourned to summon additional witnesses for the next session. The developments follow recent ATC announcements on reserving verdicts in related May 9 cases, maintaining high public and political attention.

Legal experts warn that the ongoing disputes over video appearances and procedural issues reflect broader concerns regarding fair trial rights in politically sensitive cases. Earlier, the ATC had recorded final statements from all 33 accused in the attack on GOR-1 gate at Club Chowk during the May 9 unrest, including PTI leader Dr. Yasmin Rashid, while multiple May 9 cases continue to be pursued across Pakistan, involving over 100 PTI activists.

Political analysts say these hearings and procedural controversies may weaken PTI’s positioning and influence voter perceptions ahead of national polls. With the Supreme Court previously granting bail to Khan in multiple May 9 cases, Imran Khan’s legal and political troubles continue to dominate Pakistan’s news cycle.
