Imprisoned former Pakistani PM Imran Khan Attends Court by Video Link

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text dp_text_size=”size-4″]Former Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan participated in a Supreme Court session on Thursday through a video link from prison, relating to a case he has initiated against amendments made to Pakistan’s anti-corruption laws.

Although his video appearance was anticipated to be broadcast live on the court’s website and YouTube, it was not available as the proceedings commenced. The reason for this unavailability on the website or YouTube remains unknown.

Thousands of Khan’s supporters were eagerly awaiting the court visuals on the YouTube channel of his Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party.

Khan, a 71-year-old former cricketer turned politician, has been making appearances in various courts since his incarceration. However, cameras are typically prohibited from covering these proceedings, which usually occur within the confines of the prison premises.

While Khan faces numerous charges, his appearance on Thursday pertained to a case challenging amendments to Pakistan’s anti-corruption legislation.

Earlier this week, the Supreme Court directed the government to ensure Khan’s participation via video link, granting his request to represent himself instead of through legal counsel.

Despite being granted bail in a land corruption case on Wednesday, Khan will remain in custody as he has been convicted in four cases, with sentences in two cases suspended.

Khan contends that the charges against him are politically motivated, orchestrated by his rivals and the influential military to undermine his political career. Both parties refute these allegations.

Despite Khan’s imprisonment, his political party secured the most seats in the recent national elections, although they fell short of forming a government. A coalition led by former Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, a rival of Khan, eventually assumed power.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]
