IESCO Arrests Six Thousand Electricity Thieves Across Islamabad City

The Islamabad Electric Supply Company (IESCO) has arrested 2,950 individuals for electricity theft in a large-scale operation across the capital. The campaign identified 5,929 cases of power theft, resulting in fines totaling Rs. 503.4 million.

Chaudhry Khalid Mahmood, Chief Executive Engineer of IESCO, stated that the operation was launched in 2023 under the directives of the Federal Government and the Ministry of Energy. Over 2.8 million electricity meters across all consumer categories were inspected during the anti-theft campaign.

Mahmood emphasized that electricity theft is a “national crime and a sin” that damages the country’s economy and affects public welfare. He warned that offenders will find “no room within the IESCO region.”

The crackdown was carried out in collaboration with law enforcement agencies. IESCO’s operations, metering, surveillance, and testing teams played a critical role in identifying offenders and ensuring proper evidence collection. Mahmood praised their dedication and urged staff to maintain their focus despite external pressures.

IESCO has also called on the public to assist authorities by reporting electricity theft. Complaints can be submitted to local Sub-Divisional Officers (SDOs), through the helpline 118, or via the Central Complaint and Monitoring Cell at 051-9252933.

The operation highlights IESCO’s ongoing commitment to curb electricity theft and protect national resources. Officials have pledged to continue strict action against offenders to ensure accountability and fair energy distribution throughout Islamabad.

This initiative reflects IESCO’s focus on safeguarding electricity infrastructure and promoting lawful energy use, which benefits both the government and the public. By maintaining vigilance and encouraging public cooperation, the utility aims to reduce financial losses caused by theft.
