The Pakistan Super League has officially entered a new chapter with the launch of its first-ever player auction for PSL 11. This major development replaces the traditional draft system that had been a core part of the league since its inception. The shift to an auction-based model marks a significant structural change and aligns the PSL more closely with other major global cricket leagues that use open bidding to build competitive squads.
Another historic aspect of PSL 11 is the expansion of the tournament to eight teams. Two new franchises from Hyderabad and Sialkot have been added, increasing competition and widening the league’s national footprint. With more teams and a new recruitment system, PSL 11 is expected to deliver a fresh dynamic both on and off the field. The expansion also creates more opportunities for domestic players to showcase their talent at the highest level.
The PSL 11 player auction is being held today at Lahore’s Expo Center and is scheduled to begin at 11:30 AM. Cricket fans across Pakistan and around the world can watch the proceedings live through the official PSL and Pakistan Cricket Board YouTube channels. The live broadcast offers complete coverage, allowing viewers to follow bidding battles, player prices, and squad-building strategies in real time.
Ahead of the auction, each franchise was permitted to retain up to four players. These retentions were limited to one player from each category, including Platinum, Diamond, Gold, and Silver. This rule was designed to maintain balance and prevent teams from locking in too many top-tier players before the auction process began.
During the auction, franchises are required to build squads consisting of a minimum of 16 and a maximum of 20 players. Squad composition rules mandate the inclusion of five to seven overseas players and at least two uncapped Under-23 players. Additionally, teams must ensure that at least one uncapped Under-23 player is included in their playing XI throughout the season.
All players selected in the PSL 11 auction will sign two-year contracts, reflecting the league’s long-term planning approach. The PCB has also announced plans to conduct a grand auction after the 2027 season to further evolve the recruitment structure. Meanwhile, the recently sold Multan-based franchise will now operate from Rawalpindi and has completed its retentions after receiving a short extension.
