Rain And Storms Cause Havoc Across Punjab
Officials confirmed that the fatalities occurred due to wall and roof collapses caused by the rain and storms, while most of the injured were treated for minor wounds and electric shocks. The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) reported that emergency teams remain on high alert as more rain is expected in the coming days.
- Four people lost their lives in separate incidents of wall and roof collapse.
- At least 28 people were injured, with many from Lahore and Sheikhupura.
- PDMA has advised citizens to stay indoors during heavy rainfall and avoid standing near power lines.
- Strong winds uprooted dozens of trees, disrupting traffic on major roads.
- Power supply in several areas was suspended for safety reasons.
Meteorologists warned that the recent weather pattern is part of a strong monsoon wave sweeping across central and northern Pakistan. The continuous rain and storms have already strained urban drainage systems, causing flash floods in some areas. Lahore and Sialkot recorded the heaviest rainfall overnight, with rescue authorities receiving hundreds of emergency calls, including in Tandlianwala.
An official from Rescue 1122 said, “Our teams are working round the clock to manage waterlogging and assist stranded families. Citizens are urged to cooperate and avoid unnecessary travel.” The PDMA added that contingency plans are being implemented in flood-prone districts to prevent further casualties.
Authorities have also urged farmers to take precautionary measures as excessive rain and storms could damage standing crops. The situation remains under observation, with the next few days expected to bring more unstable weather conditions.
