Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi has confirmed that the Fordow nuclear facility sustained “serious and heavy” damage following recent U.S. airstrikes. In an interview with CBS News, Araqchi noted that while full details remain unclear, preliminary assessments indicate significant destruction at the sensitive site.
The Fordow complex, a key part of Iran’s nuclear infrastructure, was among three facilities targeted by U.S. military bombers early Sunday. The strikes reportedly involved over a dozen 30,000-pound bunker-buster bombs, aimed at crippling Iran’s nuclear capabilities. According to U.S. officials, the operations were a major success, with President Donald Trump claiming they “completely and totally obliterated” Iran’s nuclear program.

Despite this, some internal U.S. intelligence assessments suggest a more cautious interpretation. A Washington Post report, citing sources familiar with classified briefings, indicated that intercepted Iranian communications may have attempted to downplay the extent of the damage.
Iran’s Atomic Energy Organization is currently evaluating the site and will present its findings to the government. As tensions rise in the region, the global community watches closely to determine the true impact of the strikes on Iran’s nuclear ambitions and regional stability.
