Has the Punjab Government Prohibited Serving Food at Funerals?

Viral claims on social media have sparked widespread confusion after alleging that the Punjab government has imposed a ban on preparing and serving food at funerals across the province. The posts claimed that authorities were planning to prohibit cooking, food distribution, and funeral-related gatherings, and that district administrations would soon receive formal instructions to strictly enforce the decision.

According to these circulating messages, individuals who violated the alleged ban could face action from authorities. The claims spread rapidly on various platforms, alarming many people, particularly because funerals and related traditions hold deep cultural and religious importance in Punjab. The situation was further complicated by the absence of any official notification, policy document, or government announcement supporting the claims.

As concern grew, Punjab Information and Culture Minister Azma Bokhari addressed the issue and categorically rejected the reports. In a brief response shared on social media, she described the claims as “fake news” and clarified that the Punjab government has not issued any directive banning the preparation or serving of food at funerals. Her statement aimed to put an end to the rumors and reassure the public that no such restriction is under consideration.

The government emphasized that no instructions have been sent to district administrations regarding funerals or food distribution, and there is no plan to take action against citizens over such matters. Officials stressed that the viral posts were based on misinformation and should not be taken seriously.

Authorities have urged the public to remain cautious and verify information before sharing it online. Citizens have been advised to rely only on official statements and notifications released through government channels to avoid unnecessary panic. The incident highlights the growing impact of misinformation on social media and the importance of responsible information sharing to prevent confusion and unrest.
