Hamas Spokesman Abdel Latif al-Qanou Reportedly Killed in Israeli Airstrike

Abdel Latif al-Qanou, a prominent spokesperson for Hamas, was reportedly killed in an Israeli airstrike in northern Gaza, according to Hamas-affiliated Shehab news agency. The strike occurred on Wednesday night in Jabaliya, an area heavily impacted by the ongoing conflict. The Hamas-run Al-Aqsa television also confirmed the incident, stating that several others were wounded in the attack.

Al-Qanou, who had been a key media figure for Hamas since 2016, was well-known for his role in representing the group. Born in Jabaliya in 1981, he pursued advanced education, obtaining a doctorate in preaching and media from the University of Tripoli in Lebanon in 2019. His affiliation with Hamas dates back to the Second Intifada in 2000.

His reported death follows the recent elimination of other senior Hamas figures, including Ismail Barhoum and Salah al-Bardaweel. These targeted killings have significantly impacted Hamas’s political leadership, with 11 of its 20-member political office reportedly killed since the war began in 2023.

The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) have not yet officially commented on al-Qanou’s death. However, IDF operations have intensified, reportedly killing 150 Hamas militants, including several senior officials, since the resumption of hostilities last week.
