Gwadar’s New Airport Set to Open Doors on January 20

Pakistan’s Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) has officially announced the commencement of operations at the New Gwadar International Airport, set to begin on January 20, 2025. The state-of-the-art facility is expected to play a crucial role in transforming Gwadar into a major hub for both domestic and international flights, enhancing the region’s connectivity and economic potential.

According to a notification issued by the CAA, the airport will initially host flights operated by Pakistan International Airlines (PIA), with both local and international carriers showing interest in launching services. Strategically located along the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), the New Gwadar International Airport is part of Pakistan’s broader infrastructure development plan. This initiative aims to improve transport links, not just within the region, but also with international markets. The airport is equipped with modern facilities, designed to accommodate larger aircraft and ensure enhanced security measures, making it a key gateway for travelers.

With the airport’s inauguration, Gwadar is poised to become a pivotal node in Pakistan’s global trade ambitions, fostering greater investment and positioning the city as a maritime and logistics hub. Meanwhile, PIA has also resumed its European operations after a hiatus, with a flight to Paris marking the airline’s return to the European market.
