Green Pakistan Initiative to bring major Investment to country

On Monday, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif estimated that during the following three to four years, the agriculture industry will draw investments totaling $30 to $50 billion.

At the National Seminar on Food Security and Agriculture in Islamabad, he made this declaration while introducing the Green Pakistan Initiative.

The prime minister emphasised the value of agriculture and the efforts being made by the government to help it reach its full potential through the Special Investment Facilitation Council (SIFC), which was just recently created.

According to the prime minister, state-owned companies were wasting 600 billion rupees of Pakistan’s money. He gave examples to back up his point, recalling how Pakistan used to produce more cotton than its neighbours but is now falling behind in the production of cotton, wheat, and other agricultural products.

According to PM Shehbaz, Gulf nations are eager to invest in agriculture and send cutting-edge equipment to boost national agricultural output.

He asserted that Pakistan makes great basmati rice, and that once the nation’s agricultural economy is revived and investments begin to flow in, the rice’s quality will increase significantly.

In broader terms, he claimed that Pakistan needed political stability to draw foreign investment because many of them were staying away because of the dire domestic situation.

According to his prediction, Pakistan may draw $40–50 billion in investments over the following few years and sell food to Gulf nations that currently import $40 billion worth of food. The prime minister reaffirmed the need for Pakistan to compete on a global scale and voiced optimism for a recovery of the economy in the following two years.

Asim Munir, the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), also vowed that the military would assist economic growth wholeheartedly. He asserted that “no power in the world can obstruct Pakistan’s progress” and that “Pakistan has every capability to reach the top.”

In addition to the prime and COAS, federal ministers, the chief ministers of Punjab and Sindh, provincial chief secretaries, agricultural specialists, and farmers from every province also attended the seminar. The seminar was also attended by foreign dignitaries, possible investors, and professionals from the UK, Italy, Spain, China, Bahrain, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Turkiye, and other nations.

The Green Pakistan Initiative, which was introduced together with the Land Information Management System – Centre of Excellence (LIMS – COE), intends to strengthen Pakistan’s food security, boost exports, and decrease agricultural imports in order to boost the country’s economy.
