The Economic Coordination Committee (ECC), chaired by Finance Minister Senator Muhammad Aurangzeb, met to discuss major economic and development initiatives, with PTV’s upgradation featuring prominently on the agenda. The committee approved a Technical Supplementary Grant of Rs. 2,829 million for PTV to modernize its English News Channel, aiming to enhance broadcast quality and widen its international reach.
Midway through the session, members emphasized that PTV must prepare a robust business plan to ensure the upgraded channel becomes self-sustaining, reducing long-term dependence on government funding. Other decisions included removing Health Quarantine Certificate requirements for leather imports and exports to boost the industry’s global competitiveness, allocating funds to the Ministry of Climate Change for COP-30 participation, and approving an Industrial Estate on Pakistan Steel Mills’ land in Karachi to stimulate economic growth and job creation.
Concluding the meeting, the chair reiterated the importance of timely and effective implementation of all approved measures, particularly the PTV upgrade, to maximize their economic and social impact.
