Govt to Refund Rs3.45bn to Hajj Pilgrims by October 31

The federal government has announced a major financial relief for Hajj pilgrims, confirming plans to refund over Rs3.45 billion to those who performed Hajj last year. The decision was formally revealed by the Ministry of Religious Affairs in Islamabad.

According to official details, the ministry will return Rs3,456,585,000 to pilgrims who took part in the 2024 Hajj under the government scheme. The refund process will be completed through direct transfers to pilgrims’ bank accounts by October 31.

Federal Minister for Religious Affairs Sardar Muhammad Yousaf made the announcement during a press conference, stating that the decision reflects the government’s commitment to transparency and the responsible use of public funds. He noted that the refunds are being made after a thorough audit of Hajj expenditures.

The minister further explained that the refunded amount includes savings from accommodation, transport, and service charges that were initially overestimated during budgeting. “We have ensured that every rupee collected from the pilgrims is accounted for and returned if not utilized,” he said.

The Ministry of Religious Affairs has directed all banks to expedite the transfer process to ensure that the funds reach pilgrims before the announced deadline. Pilgrims have been advised to verify their account details with the designated banks to avoid any delays.

Midway through the week, another key political development made headlines when PTI youth leader Raja Shahbaz Bhatti was sent on an eight-day physical remand by an Anti-Terrorism Court in Rawalpindi. The case has drawn attention to ongoing political tensions and legal proceedings.

Returning to the Hajj refunds, the announcement has been widely welcomed by the public and religious circles alike. Many have praised the government’s decision as a sign of accountability and efficiency. Religious scholars have also emphasized that such transparency strengthens public trust in the Hajj management system.

Officials added that future Hajj policies would focus on reducing costs and improving facilities for pilgrims. The ministry is also exploring digital solutions to streamline registration, payment tracking, and service delivery for the upcoming Hajj season.

With this refund initiative, the government aims to set a precedent for fair financial management and improved trust between the state and citizens participating in the sacred pilgrimage.
