In a move to promote clean energy and reduce fuel imports, the Pakistani government is working on a scheme to provide 100,000 electric bikes on easy loans. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif shared the plan during a high-level meeting focused on encouraging electric vehicle (EV) use across the country.
The initiative aims to make electric bikes affordable and accessible to the public. Under this plan, the government will offer electric bikes to top-performing students from all educational boards, including the federal board. Additionally, unemployed individuals will be given priority for electric rickshaws and loaders to support self-employment.
The prime minister stressed the need to develop a complete system for manufacturing and maintaining EVs within Pakistan. He also called for third-party validation of the entire process to ensure fairness, transparency, and proper use of government support.
Sharif highlighted that the scheme should especially benefit the poor and those with limited resources. The government will launch a nationwide awareness campaign to inform citizens about how to benefit from the program. This may include details on how to apply for electric bikes on easy loans in Pakistan, along with online registration guidance, such as e-bike registration online and access through portals like bikes.punjab.gov.pk, online application.
Quality and safety remain a priority. The electric vehicles distributed under the scheme will need to meet high performance and safety standards. This includes ensuring that all provided bikes, rickshaws, and loaders are both durable and reliable.
The initiative is part of Pakistan’s broader effort to cut fuel imports, protect the environment, and support the local EV industry. If implemented successfully, this project could bring long-term benefits for both individuals and the national economy.
