The Ministry of Interior has issued a notification authorizing the apprehension, confinement, and expulsion of foreign nationals residing unlawfully in Pakistan, including those who have exceeded the validity of their visas. These directives were issued subsequent to the expiration of the deadline for departure from Pakistan. In adherence to the ministry’s orders, authorities nationwide have commenced taking action against immigrants.
It is important to highlight that a significant number of Afghans, some of whom have resided in Pakistan for decades, have been compelled to return to Afghanistan.
In its notification, the ministry has clarified that individuals under trial or those who have been convicted will not be repatriated. This notification has been disseminated to all provinces.

Earlier today, the minister shared a video depicting the repatriation of Afghan nationals. He underscored that this action reflects Pakistan’s commitment to repatriating individuals residing in the country without proper documentation. He shared this message on a social media platform.
It is important to note that a majority of the Afghan nationals being repatriated were born in Pakistan and had never been to Afghanistan. Following the Taliban’s rise to power, their prospects under the new regime became even more uncertain.
Historically, various governments have introduced amnesty schemes for the elites to legitimize their undisclosed wealth. Unfortunately, similar arrangements have not been put in place to regularize the status of displaced individuals.
