The Maldives government, under President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu, declared an extended public holiday for the entire week of Eid al-Fitr.
A statement from the President’s Office confirmed that if the Ministry of Islamic Affairs announced Shawwal 1 on March 31, 2025, public holidays would extend from March 31 to April 3, 2025.

However, if Eid al-Fitr fell on March 30, the holidays would be observed on March 30, 31, and April 1. Regardless of the official Eid date, the government ensured that holidays would continue until April 3 to provide citizens with uninterrupted time for celebrations.
Following the holiday break, Friday and Saturday would also be off, with government offices reopening on April 6, 2025.
Additionally, the government announced a closure starting from March 20 for the last ten days of Ramadan, in line with the President’s policy of promoting religious observance.
Despite the extended break, essential government services were instructed to remain operational.
