Google Completes Registration And Plans To Open Office In Pakistan

Federal Minister for IT and Telecommunication Shaza Fatima Khawaja announced that Google has officially completed its registration in Pakistan and is now preparing to open its first local office. This marks a major step toward strengthening Pakistan’s digital economy and creating new opportunities in the technology sector.

Speaking at a press conference on Saturday, Shaza Fatima said that Google’s registration reflects growing confidence in Pakistan’s digital landscape. She also shared that the manufacturing of Google Chromebooks has already begun in Haripur, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, under a collaboration with Tech Valley, NRTC, and Australia-based Allied.

According to the minister, around 500,000 to 600,000 Chromebooks will be produced every year in Pakistan. She added that this initiative will promote technology transfer, generate local employment, and strengthen the country’s manufacturing base. The government also plans to export these devices in the future, which will help boost national revenues.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif earlier highlighted that local production of IT equipment like Chromebooks will reduce import costs and support foreign exchange reserves through tech exports.

Shaza Fatima also revealed that a memorandum of understanding (MoU) has been finalized between Google and the Ministry of IT. Under this partnership, AI training programs will be launched for young professionals to prepare them for global opportunities. She said discussions are also underway to establish AI labs across Pakistan.

In addition, the minister announced that Meta’s Llama AI platform is now available in Urdu, making Pakistan one of the few countries to receive localized access. She also mentioned that the TikTok STEM feed has been launched in Pakistan to promote science and technology learning.
