Google Assistant’s Official Shutdown Date Revealed Through Documents

Google Assistant, the default voice assistant on Google phones and apps, is set to retire in March 2026. This date was confirmed through updated support documents and official announcements from Google.

Since its launch, Google Assistant has allowed users to make calls, set alarms, send messages, and complete many daily tasks using voice commands. It has been a key tool for Android users and Google Home device owners.

Google is replacing Google Assistant with its more advanced Gemini AI model. Gemini offers enhanced capabilities, improved performance, and better integration across devices, including Android phones, Android Auto, and Google TV.

The transition to Gemini has already begun. Gemini is replacing Assistant features on Google TV Streamer and Android Auto. Google has gradually removed some Assistant functionalities to prepare users for the new system.

Support documents confirm that Google Assistant will remain fully operational until March 2026. After that, all remaining features will shift to Gemini. Google Home devices, which still depend on Assistant, are gradually receiving Gemini integration, restoring full functionality.

Gemini also includes Gemini Live and other AI-powered tools to provide a more versatile voice assistant experience. Google has emphasized that the retirement of Google Assistant is part of a broader effort to streamline its AI offerings and provide users with a single, unified assistant.

Users are encouraged to familiarize themselves with Gemini before March 2026. The retirement of Google Assistant marks the end of an era in voice-controlled technology, while Gemini is positioned to become Google’s primary assistant across platforms.
