The Goods Carriers Association (GCA) has alleged that 11 of its drivers were abducted by armed dacoits from the Katcha (riverine) area near Kashmore, urging the Pakistan Army to intervene and safeguard the country’s transport sector.
Acting president Safeer Shaheen stated that criminals in the Katcha region are openly targeting goods transporters, creating a climate of fear and insecurity. The association has issued a 48-hour ultimatum to the government, demanding the immediate recovery of the kidnapped drivers, warning that failure to act will trigger a nationwide strike.
“If the drivers are not rescued within the given time, transporters will be compelled to suspend operations across Pakistan,” Shaheen cautioned, stressing that drivers and their staff are left vulnerable to highway bandits.
General Secretary Nadeem Arain also warned that if protective measures are not enforced, transporters may have to resort to extreme steps for their survival. The association emphasized that continued inaction could paralyze economic activities, already under severe strain, and called for decisive action against criminal gangs operating along highways and in riverine belts.
The transporters said such a strike could deal a massive blow to the national economy, underscoring the urgent need for government intervention.
