Goa Nightclub Blaze Kills over Two Dozen crowded Dancers

A devastating fire at a Goa nightclub claimed at least 25 lives, sending shockwaves across the coastal state. The blaze erupted after a cylinder explosion at the popular Romeo Lane club in Arpora, around 25 km from Panaji.

The venue was packed with over 100 tourists and partygoers when the fire broke out. Witnesses described scenes of chaos as flames spread rapidly, trapping many who ran toward the basement-level kitchen in a desperate attempt to escape.

Locals said the entire structure was engulfed within minutes. Most of the deceased were kitchen workers, including three women, while a few tourists also lost their lives. Officials confirmed that the majority died of suffocation after being trapped below, while two victims suffered fatal burns.

The nightclub, partly built with temporary palm-leaf structures, caught fire instantly. Its backwater location and narrow approach roads prevented fire trucks from reaching the site on time, forcing responders to operate hundreds of meters away and slowing rescue operations.

Chief Minister Pramod Sawant condemned the tragedy and confirmed that the club had violated fire safety standards. He ordered a full investigation and strict action against the owners and officials responsible for allowing the venue to function.

Authorities revealed the club was run by Soru Luthra and already faced disputes and legal notices. The local Panchayat had flagged the establishment for lacking proper licenses, issuing a demolition notice that was later stayed.

BJP MLA Michael Lobo, after visiting the scene, announced that all nightclubs in the area will undergo fire safety audits. The disaster has sparked urgent debates over nightlife safety, regulatory enforcement, and emergency preparedness in Goa.
