A fire that broke out in the Ghariyali Building in Saddar was swiftly brought under control, with five people rescued safely from the premises. The fire started on the third floor of the building, located near Empress Market, and quickly spread to the fourth and fifth floors. The Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) Fire Brigade responded promptly, with multiple fire tenders, a bowser, and a snorkel brought in to tackle the blaze.
KMC’s Chief Fire Officer, Humayun Khan, confirmed that emergency services, including ambulances, police, and Rangers, were dispatched to the scene. One track of Empress Market road was temporarily closed for traffic during the operation. The fire was contained within an hour and a half, and thankfully, no casualties were reported.

The affected sections of the building contained garment warehouses, though the cause of the fire remains under investigation. While the extent of the financial damage is yet to be determined, officials cautioned that fires tend to be more frequent during the winter months. The fire brigade’s swift action was credited with preventing a more catastrophic outcome.
This incident follows a series of recent fires in Karachi, including one at Pak Towers in Clifton last week, caused by a short circuit. A fire at Rimpa Plaza earlier this month also saw quick response from the fire brigade, with no casualties reported. Investigations into the causes of these fires are ongoing.
